What is Anaerobic Digestion?

Anaerobic Digestion is the biological process by which organic material (food waste, wastewater sludge, manure etc.) is broken down by microorganisms in the absence of oxygen to produce biogas (mainly methane and carbon dioxide) and nutrient-rich digestate.

This process has been utilised across the globe to generate gas and electricity to power everything from clean cooking stoves, to farm machinery, to entire rural communities.

The Biogas is very versatile to be used in boilers, cooking equipment or as fuel for Combined Heat & Power (CHP) Generator.

If cleaned and upgraded the biogas can even be converted into biomethane and injected directly into gas pipelines, or otherwise compressed into bottled gas for commercial purposes.
